My only complaint of this album is that there isn't more, with a relatively short length 36 minutes. This band is pushing the limits on what is possible on their respective instruments, and they are able to showcase this technical genius whilst still creating something that works as a whole. The technical ability showcased on this album should be a lesson to any musician listening. The production on this album is nearly perfection, with thick but clear drum sounds and some incredible guitar tones, with some fantastic chunky humbucker sounds, as well as some great split coil tones, often used for the band's signature thumping technique, pioneered by Tosin and Javier. The album also features tasteful usage of electronic elements, which really blend in with the songs themselves and also the timbres created by the rest of the band. They are album to do all of this whilst still writing memorable songs that are incredibly enjoyable to listen to. The songs combine rhythmically complex, mind bending phrases and sections with some incredibly groovy, heavier meshuggah-esque sections, such as the breakdown in Red Miso. This is the latest release of Animals, who in my opinion are possibly the most technically proficient band in existence, and that is clearly evident on this album.
